About Grant

Grant is the Perkins County seat, platted in 1886 when the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad reached the site. The city’s name honors Ulysses S. Grant, and the railroad did more than bring trains: it fixed Grant on the county map and helped make the temporary county-seat choice permanent. Today it is a small western Nebraska city with a courthouse-town role and a very clear railroad origin. Grant is the kind of place where the county seat and the old rail line still tell the whole layout.
