Grayland, WA

Grayland is a coastal census-designated place in the southwestern corner of Grays Harbor County, with the Pacific Ocean to the west and Westport and the entrance to Grays Harbor to the north. The 2020 census counted 847 residents. Ocosta School District serves Grayland along with Westport, Ocosta, Markham, and Tokeland. The Grayland Community Hall on Cranberry Road has a shelter, restrooms, and an old-time baseball field, while the school campus doubles as a high-ground emergency resource on this tsunami-exposed coast.

Cranberry bogs are part of Grayland's working landscape, along with fishing, beach roads, small farms, and the seasonal traffic that follows the harvest. The wet, acidic soils suit cranberries, and growers brought the crop to this part of the Washington coast more than a century ago. Community events at the hall and the nearby cranberry museum keep that history close to present-day life. Grayland is a narrow coastal community where school, emergency planning, agriculture, and the ocean all occupy the same strip of land. Its nearest larger services are in Westport and Aberdeen, but the local rhythm is set by the bogs, the tide, and the school calendar.
