Great Falls gets its name from the series of five waterfalls along the Missouri River that famously challenged Lewis and Clark back in 1805. Long before that, the area was ancestral homeland to tribal nations like the Blackfeet. Today, it is home to around 60,000 people, serving as the main hub for north-central Montana. The city combines historic, tree-lined neighborhoods and an active riverfront with expansive views of the surrounding plains, offering a classic Big Sky feel without the resort-town price tag.

Day-to-day life here revolves heavily around the outdoors and local heritage. The River’s Edge Trail stretches for roughly 60 miles along the Missouri River, linking neighborhood parks with spots like Giant Springs State Park and the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. Western art enthusiasts love the C.M. Russell Museum, which showcases the famous cowboy artist’s original studio and home. Between summer concerts in Gibson Park, farmers markets downtown, and the Montana State Fair every summer, you get a genuine sense of community framed by incredible prairie sunsets.
