Greensboro, FL

Greensboro is a Gadsden County town in western Florida, where State Road 12 crosses a landscape of farms, pine, and rolling north Florida hills. J.W. Green settled here in 1895, secured a post office called Green’s, and gave the future town its name. The Apalachicola Northern Railroad arrived in 1907, bringing a depot and a stronger outlet for local crops and products. By the 1920s, Greensboro had stores, a bank, hotel, churches, a high school, grist mill, and businesses tied to beef, hogs, turpentine, resin, syrup, and peanuts.

The railroad depot now houses the Greensboro Depot Railroad Museum, with regional rail memorabilia and a meeting facility. Shepard’s Mill, built beside Telogia Creek in 1875, remains visible from Highway 12, its millpond still marking the older agricultural landscape. Greensboro Elementary and West Gadsden Middle School sit along the town’s school corridor, while Gadsden County High School serves older students nearby. The town’s character comes from that overlap: railroad history, mill country, schools, and farm production.
