Greensburg, KY

Greensburg is Green County's seat on the north side of the Green River, with a downtown historic district built around an old courthouse square. The second county courthouse, completed in 1804, is still standing and is the oldest surviving courthouse in Kentucky and the oldest west of the Allegheny Mountains. The Green River shaped the town's early trade, while U.S. 68 now runs through Main Street toward Campbellsville and Edmonton. Greensburg's annual Cow Days festival began during the Great Depression as a merchant drawing for a cow and returned in its current form in the 1970s. A historic water plant now serves as a Green River information center and museum. Greensburg is a Kentucky county seat where courthouse stone, river geography, and a very literal festival name all share the same downtown.
