Greenwich, OH

Greenwich is a Huron County village on U.S. Route 224, about fifteen miles south of Norwalk. The 2020 census counted 1,409 residents. South Central Local Schools serve the surrounding area, and the Greenwich Public Library operates as a Huron County Community Library branch. The village sits in the Firelands farm country, with Route 224 carrying the longer trips and local streets gathering around the roughly one-square-mile civic center. Farm traffic also feeds the local streets from the surrounding fields, while school routes connect nearby townships.

Greenwich Township took its name from Greenwich, Connecticut, and the village grew from the early settlement around it. A post office opened in 1828, and Greenwich incorporated as a village in 1879. The old sequence—township, post office, highway, school, library—still gives the place its shape. Norwalk handles larger county connections, while Greenwich keeps the practical rhythm of a small village: school buses, farm traffic, local government, and neighbors using the same compact set of streets.
