Freight unloaded at the Port of Charleston can be available the next morning at Inland Port Greer, a 24-hour terminal where Norfolk Southern rail meets South Carolina's I-85 manufacturing corridor. The terminal's 2025 expansion raised capacity by 50 percent, a contemporary extension of the rail access that helped create Greer in the nineteenth century. The city occupies parts of both Greenville and Spartanburg counties, roughly midway between those two Upstate centers, and its boundaries include Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport and BMW's manufacturing complex. Fifteen voters incorporated the settlement as Greer's in 1876, when the depot and nearby mills were shaping a railroad-and-textile town. The population rose from 35,308 in the 2020 census to an estimated 50,007 in 2025. Daily community activity has strong downtown gathering points. The 12-acre Greer City Park, part of a 21-park system, provides an amphitheater, playground, and picnic shelter; in 2026 it hosted the seventeenth annual Freedom Blast and a run of free Moonlight Movies.

A restored 1955 municipal building became the Center for the Arts after a $2.5 million renovation completed in 2019. It holds classrooms, artist-in-residence studios, and a 150-seat auditorium, while its two-acre grounds add walking paths, an outdoor amphitheater, and another playground. The center supports classes, festivals, exhibitions, and stage productions rather than functioning only as a gallery. Nearby, the Greer Heritage Museum is using the city's 150th-anniversary year in 2026 to interpret the depot, textile economy, historic communities, medical history, and entertainment. These institutions link Greer's present growth and logistics economy to the rail-and-mill settlement from which it developed.
