Greers Ferry, AR

Greers Ferry is a Cleburne County city on the north shore of Greers Ferry Lake. The 2020 census counted 821 residents. Arkansas Highways 16 and 92 cross the Narrows to Higden, while West Side School District operates West Side Elementary and West Side High School in town. City water and sewer, local restaurants and stores, boat businesses, churches, and the roads to lake access points make up the practical center. The shoreline is part of the workday as much as the weekend: fishing, boat repair, guiding, and seasonal trade all run through it.

Greers Ferry was incorporated in 1968 after Greers Ferry Dam and Lake were built between 1959 and 1964. The reservoir flooded older settlements along the Little Red River, and some families moved close to the new lake rather than leaving the area. The city grew from that relocation, with roads, schools, and utilities giving the scattered community a shared center. Today the lake still shapes the town's calendar and economy, but the school and municipal services keep the community grounded year-round. Greers Ferry is a lake town built after a major change to the valley, with the water and the school carrying equal weight in local life.
