About Guilford
Guilford was founded around 1856 near the Platte River and named for the Battle of Guilford Court House. Routes M and AH meet about half a mile east of the river, with Barnard five miles west and the Nodaway–Andrew county line three miles south. South Nodaway R-IV’s current district office and high school are in Barnard, so the road west remains part of Guilford’s education route. The former Carterville post office and the farm roads toward Barnard still tie this river-edge settlement to its regional schools.
