About Gurdon

Tucked into the pine woods of southern Clark County, Gurdon is a quiet community shaped by a long history with the railroad and the timber industry. It got its start in the 1870s as a rail camp and quickly grew into a logging hub for south Arkansas. You can still see that past around town, from the brick 1917 Missouri Pacific depot to the International Hoo-Hoo Museum, which honors the quirky lumbermen's fraternity founded right here back in 1892.

Gurdon also has a famous piece of local folklore: the Gurdon Light. Locals and visitors have spent decades walking the old tracks in the woods trying to spot the mysterious glowing orb, a spooky tale that even landed the town on Unsolved Mysteries. Today, Gurdon offers a slow-paced, small-town lifestyle where high school teams still take the field as the Go-Devils, with Highway 67 offering a straightforward drive up to Arkadelphia for everyday essentials.
