Gwynn, VA

Gwynn is a Mathews County CDP with a small population and a very coastal Virginia setting. The map label sits about five miles north-northeast of Mathews, while nearby Gwynn's Island carries the deeper local history: a working waterfront, an iron truss bridge, the Gwynn's Island Museum, and a 1,425-acre historic district tied to farming and maritime trade. The island was part of the Revolutionary War story at Fort Cricket Hill and the Battle of Gwynn's Island in 1776. Gwynn is not a standalone town so much as a Mathews County place-name connected to the island, the water, and the old routes across the peninsula.
