Halifax, PA

Halifax is a Dauphin County borough in the Harrisburg metropolitan area, with 796 residents in the 2020 census. It was incorporated in 1785 at the confluence of Armstrong Creek and the Susquehanna River. A colonial Fort Halifax stood nearby from 1756 to 1757, first as a military outpost and then as a trading post on the river. That history gives the borough a strong geographic center: water, crossings, and the north-south route that became Pennsylvania Route 147.

Fort Halifax Park sits just north of the borough on 174 acres between the Susquehanna and Armstrong Creek. Its walking trails, gardens, picnic areas, farm buildings under restoration, and annual Colonial Fort Halifax Festival keep the old site in the present-day community map. Inside the borough, Veterans Memorial Park and the Halifax Area Recreation Authority add another layer of local gathering space. Halifax is a small river borough with a historic core that extends into a township park, where the creek, river, road, and old fort all meet.
