Hallam, NE

Hallam is a quiet village of around 270 people, tucked away about 25 miles southwest of Lincoln. It gives you a relaxed rural atmosphere while still keeping the capital close enough for easy daily commutes and weekend trips. The town originally sprang up along the railroad in the late 1890s, supposedly getting its name when postal clerks accidentally misspelled "Hallau," the Swiss hometown of an early settler. Today, it remains a peaceful, welcoming retreat surrounded by open Nebraska farmland.

The community is best known for its resilience. After a devastating tornado leveled most of the village in 2004, neighbors banded together to rebuild everything from the ground up, adding updated parks, new homes, and a deep sense of local pride. Families here send their kids to either the Norris or Crete school districts nearby, making it easy to tap into larger academic programs while enjoying small-town living.
