Hallsville, MO

Hallsville is a Boone County city of 1,614 residents in the 2020 census, part of the Columbia metro and laid out in 1866. It takes its name from its first postmaster, Judge John W. Hall. Southeast of town, Mount Zion Church and Cemetery marks the site of the 1863 Battle of Mount Zion Church, giving the surrounding countryside a Civil War landmark that still sits close to the city. Hallsville's present-day center is built around school, park, and community use. Hallsville R-IV runs the local primary, elementary, intermediate, and high schools, with the district serving more than 1,500 students across the wider area.

Six-acre Tribble Park began as a 1974 community effort and now has shelters, playground equipment, and open space; two shelters were replaced in 2023 with Boone County grant support. Its shelters and open ground make room for gatherings beyond the school calendar. The town's practical pattern is a school-centered community with a shared park on Highway OO and a historic battlefield just outside town.
