Hanahan sits tucked away in the greater Charleston area, offering a quiet, laid-back suburban vibe right beside the Goose Creek Reservoir. Because the reservoir cuts directly through town, Hanahan naturally splits into distinct neighborhood pockets: established areas like Old Hanahan, leafy waterfront communities like Otranto, and newer subdivisions in Tanner Plantation. With a population of around 20,000, it gives newcomers a relaxed, small-town atmosphere while sitting just minutes from North Charleston and Interstate 26. One quirk you quickly learn when getting around is that the water has no connecting bridges, so traveling to a neighborhood on the opposite bank means taking a quick drive around the shoreline.
