Hanging Rock, OH

Hanging Rock is a village in Lawrence County, Ohio, United States, along the Ohio River. The 2020 census counted 204 residents. Hanging Rock is a part of the Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH, Metropolitan Statistical Area. Hanging Rock had its start in 1820 when European Americans built a blast furnace at the site. That mix gives Hanging Rock a clear local shape within Ohio, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present. Village development followed as workers came to the furnace. The Hanging Rock Recreational Area and the Hanging Rock Ponds are located near the village.
