Hanley Hills, MO

Hanley Hills is a compact village in St. Louis County’s University Township, with 2,009 residents in the 2020 census. Washington Elementary School is in the village, and the Normandy Schools Collaborative serves students through Normandy High School. Hanley Hills has its own village hall and municipal ordinances, while court services operate through the consolidated municipal courts in nearby St. Ann. St. Louis and the surrounding inner-ring suburbs provide the larger job, medical, and shopping map.

The village was incorporated in 1948, part of the postwar suburban growth that filled in the northwestern St. Louis County road network. Today the local texture is municipal rather than rural: streets, tree work, housing services, school boundaries, and neighborhood organizations matter more than a central business district. Washington School began operating in 1930, giving the community an older educational institution inside a small residential municipality. Hanley Hills is close to the city, but its daily business still runs through village government and the Normandy-area schools.
