The island’s cultural hub is the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center, which features peaceful walking trails around Willow Pond, traditional craft demonstrations, and exhibits honoring local watermen. Every December, the island hosts the Core Sound Decoy Festival, bringing neighbors, artists, and collectors together for a lively weekend celebration of local craftsmanship. It also serves as a main launch point for passenger ferries out to Cape Lookout National Seashore, giving residents easy access to wide-open beaches, historic lighthouses, and great fishing right in their backyard.
