Haubstadt, IN

Haubstadt is a town in Gibson County with German roots and a useful old name: Haub's Station. Henry Haub built the first house here and combined it with a stagecoach shop, general store, and trading post along the Noon Day Stage Coach route. The town incorporated in 1913, and the 2020 census counted 1,638 residents. Today it sits within the Evansville area, close enough for regional connections while keeping its own town hall, school, and church-centered map. The town's German name still shows up in its annual calendar.

Haubstadt Community School serves local students, while Saints Peter and Paul and St. James maintain longstanding Catholic school and parish ties in the area. The Haubstadt branch of the Fort Branch-Johnson Township Public Library adds another everyday stop. Each summer, the Haubstadt Sommerfest brings the town's German-American thread to the surface with a bierstube, parade, and 5K run. The old trading-post beginnings are still legible in the way school, church, library, and festival life gather around a small crossroads.
