About Haxtun

Haxtun is a Phillips County statutory town on Colorado’s northeast plains, a small place with a very specific naming story. The area was settled between 1885 and 1887 by the Strohm family, and the town incorporated in July 1909. Alice Strohm wanted Lillydale; a Lincoln Town Site Company man named it Haxtun instead, after a New York town on the Hudson. Haxtun is farm country, Highway 6 country, and a name that arrived with the railroad-era town boom.
