Hayesville, OH

Hayesville is a village in Vermillion Township, Ashland County, Ohio, with a town plat that reaches back to October 1830. John Cox and Linus Hayes laid out the settlement, and Hayes later became the proprietor whose name stayed with the village. Hayesville was incorporated on March 2, 1849, giving the small community a formal civic shape while the surrounding township remained a landscape of farms, creeks, and county roads.

The village's history is concentrated in that founder story. Linus Hayes was not simply a name chosen from a list; he was involved in the land itself, and the town that grew from the plat carried his name into the next generation. Today Hayesville remains a compact Ashland County community, close to the larger roads and services of the county while keeping the scale of an old township village.
