Hebbronville, TX

Hebbronville is the county seat of Jim Hogg County, set at the junction of State Highways 16, 285, and 359 in South Texas. It is a ranching town with a broad, sunlit landscape of brush country, cattle country, and long highway distances between communities. The courthouse, downtown streets, churches, schools, and working businesses gather around a place that serves as the county's civic and commercial center.

The town began in 1883 when the Texas-Mexican Railway came through the area. When Pena Station's operator declined to sell land for a townsite, rancher James R. Hebbron helped arrange a new site; the station was moved about a mile and a half west and renamed Hebbronville. Jim Hogg County chose the town as its seat in 1913. Today cattle auctions, ranching, oil and gas work, public schools, local churches, the county courthouse, and the Vaquero Festival keep that railroad-and-ranching history close to everyday life. The county fair and local businesses add seasonal movement.
