Heidelberg, MN

German settlers gave Heidelberg its name, and the Le Sueur County city still carries that origin in its layout. A post office operated here from 1872 to 1903; the community was platted on December 4, 1878, and incorporated on June 26, 1894. County Highway 28 runs through town, with Minnesota State Highway 13 nearby. In its early years, Heidelberg had a Lutheran church, St. Scholastica, a district school, and a creamery that became a cheese factory.

Current Heidelberg gathers around City Hall at 31552 181st Avenue and a park system maintained by the Heidelberg Athletic Association. The park includes a baseball field, tennis court, volleyball court, horseshoe pit, and a park building with a kitchen and indoor tables. The city holds council meetings on the first Monday of each month, and the park is available for rentals from April through October. Heidelberg's present map is a short set of roads, civic offices, and recreation grounds tied to the older settlement.
