About Heidelberg

Heidelberg is a Jasper County town in southeastern Mississippi, where U.S. 11 and Interstate 59 run along the same north-south corridor. The town limits reach northwest to I-59's Exit 113, while U.S. 11 crosses the southeastern corner. Meridian lies about 40 miles northeast and Laurel 16 miles southwest, so the road map puts Heidelberg in a clear crossroads position within the county.

The town incorporated on March 12, 1884, and its post office dates to February 13, 1883. Rail lines helped give Heidelberg an early commercial role; later highways made the same corridor legible in a different way. Bogue Homo carries local drainage toward the Leaf River and the Pascagoula River watershed, and East Jasper School District serves the town. Heidelberg has a railroad-era center and modern highway edges, with its local history gathered around the routes that cross Jasper County. Mississippi Highway 528 joins the road network near town. Farms, woods, and drainage channels fill the spaces between the corridors.
