Henderson, MN

Henderson is a Sibley County river town founded by Joseph R. Brown in 1852 and named for his mother’s maiden name. The Minnesota River valley shaped its first job: Henderson became a distribution center for inland settlements, with State Highways 19 and 93 now carrying the everyday traffic. The city sits in the Big Woods and Minnesota River landscape, close enough to the water and valley routes that the geography still feels practical rather than decorative.

Today Henderson’s map runs from Main Street to Allanson’s Park above the valley, Bender Park, Rush River Park, the library, and two museums. The Joseph R. Brown Minnesota River Center connects the city’s founder to the wider history and ecology of the valley. The old courthouse now serves as the Henderson Community Building, so government and memory share the same address. Henderson feels like a place that kept its river-town memory while making room for camping, park days, school events, and the ordinary errands of a small Minnesota city.
