Heritage Creek, KY

Heritage Creek is a home-rule-class city in southern Jefferson County, about 16 miles southeast of downtown Louisville, with homes spread along Cedar Creek Road near McNeely Park South. Its municipal map has an unusual backstory. The city was incorporated in 1960 as Minor Lane Heights, then moved after Louisville Regional Airport expansion threatened the original site. City leaders went door to door to discuss a voluntary buyout, and the relocated city adopted the name Heritage Creek in 2008. The new location is about five miles southeast of the old one.

The city now has approximately 420 single-family dwellings and is governed by a mayor and six council members. Justice Way, the city address, sits within the Cedar Creek Road settlement, while the surrounding area remains part of consolidated Louisville-Jefferson County. South Park and McNeely Park South provide the nearby geographic reference points, and Louisville supplies the regional center. Heritage Creek's defining fact is the relocation itself: airport growth redrew the city, and the present-day community is a planned municipal footprint built around the road and the voluntary move.
