Hibbing, MN

Hibbing sits in the heart of Minnesota’s Iron Range, about an hour northwest of Duluth. With around 16,000 residents, it has a deep mining heritage and a one-of-a-kind past, famously moving its entire downtown on rollers in the 1920s to let the Hull-Rust iron mine expand. For newcomers, the city provides affordable housing, easy commutes, and a grounded, tight-knit community surrounded by northern forests.

The town is well known as the birthplace of the Greyhound bus industry and the childhood home of Bob Dylan. Residents take pride in Hibbing High School, a historic brick landmark built during the mining boom with an opulent auditorium modeled after New York theaters. For outdoor recreation, McCarthy Beach State Park and nearby lakes offer great spots for swimming, boating, and trail hiking throughout the seasons.
