Hillsboro, NM

Tucked into the foothills of the Black Range in southwestern New Mexico, Hillsboro got its start as a booming gold mining camp in 1877. It even served as the Sierra County seat for several decades before the county government moved down to Truth or Consequences. Today, that frontier past is everywhere you look, from rustic adobe homes and 19th-century storefronts to the ruins of the historic courthouse shaded by massive cottonwoods.
