Hilltop, SC

Hilltop is a Spartanburg County census-designated place pressed against the city of Spartanburg, with I-585 at its northeast edge, I-85 Business to the northwest, and a Norfolk Southern railway branch marking part of the southwest. The 2020 census counted 3,273 residents. It is the kind of South Carolina place whose address makes more sense through the surrounding road network than through a town center: Spartanburg is next door, the interstates frame the edges, and the rail line draws a hard line through the map.

Hilltop's local scoop is its in-between position. It has a separate census identity but shares the practical orbit of Spartanburg's jobs, schools, shopping, and services.
