Hobart is a city in Lake County, part of Northwest Indiana and within reach of both Gary and the broader Chicago region. It was platted in 1849 and still has older neighborhoods near its historic downtown. Lake George gives Hobart one of its clearest local features, with a waterfront path and gathering places near the center of town. The result is a practical working-city suburb with a stronger town-center feel than many places around it.
