Holcomb, MO

Holcomb is a Dunklin County city in Missouri's western Bootheel, with 642 people at the 2020 census. Missouri Routes 25 and 53 meet in town, while the St. Francis River and the Missouri–Arkansas line pass just west. That location gives Holcomb a borderland geography without making it a border crossing: the river, state line, and two highways all sit close to the city.

A post office has served Holcomb since 1882, and the community took its name from Lewis Holcomb, a Dunklin County sheriff. Holcomb R-III operates an elementary school and Holcomb High School, while a Dunklin County Library branch adds a public gathering and service point. The State Historical Society of Missouri's place-name records also tie the city's early development to the railroad and the former Pine City station nearby. Holcomb's local map is therefore a mix of Bootheel roads, river country, schools, and a name inherited from county law enforcement, with Arkansas visible just across the St. Francis.
