Holiday Hills, IL

Holiday Hills is a McHenry County village built around water, parkland, and a large working tract. Incorporated in 1976, it sits about 40 miles northwest of Chicago and 15 miles south of Wisconsin. The village covers roughly 590 acres, with about 404 acres belonging to the Reliable Sand and Gravel property and roughly 186 acres developed for homes. That split gives Holiday Hills a different shape from the subdivisions that surround it.

Fox River, Griswold Lake, and Moraine Hills State Park form the village’s edges and give the area a strong outdoor frame. Holiday Hills is governed through a village president and six trustees, with village hall, maintenance, building, police, and utility work handled on a small municipal scale. McHenry and nearby Fox River communities supply the wider service network, while Chicago’s orbit shapes the commuter geography. Holiday Hills is a place of contrasts: residential streets beside a sand-and-gravel property, lake and river water beside parkland, and a small village government holding the pieces together.
