Holland, IN

Holland is a Dubois County town in Cass Township, with 619 people at the 2020 census, in the Jasper micropolitan area. Its roots are German, even though the name points to the Netherlands: Henry Kunz, a German-born merchant, laid out Holland in 1859 near the junction of two German-settled communities and the Huntingburg–Boonville road. The post office dates to 1856. In the 1840s, German Methodist circuit riders had begun using Holland for the surrounding area, and Kunz's store helped turn that name into an actual town.

School history gives Holland another local thread. The community once had its own high school; after 1972, students in grades 9–12 moved to Southridge High School in Huntingburg as the Southwest Dubois County School Corporation took shape. Holland remains in that corporation, with red and white school colors and the Dutchmen mascot carried in local school memory. Agriculture has remained part of the town's base, while Interstate 64 and U.S. 231 connect its regional map to Huntingburg, Jasper, and Ferdinand. Holland kept its own name and community institutions as education and work spread across Dubois County.
