About Holley

Holley is an Orleans County village on the Erie Canal, first settled as a canal port in 1812 and incorporated in 1850. The place began as Saltport, a name that pointed to its early salt-making history, before it was renamed for Myron Holley, one of the Erie Canal commissioners. New York 31 and 237 now meet at the village, but the canal remains the older line to read first. Holley is a western New York village whose name changed, its waterway stayed, and the whole story still fits along the canal bank.
