Hollis, OK

Hollis is the county seat of Harmon County, a role it won after the town was laid out in 1898 by a committee that included local businessman George W. Hollis. The post office opened in 1901, and when Harmon County was created from the old Greer County in 1909, Hollis won the election for county seat. U.S. 62 and U.S. 30 meet at the city, putting the courthouse community on the main east–west routes through southwestern Oklahoma. Hollis had 1,795 residents in the 2020 census.

Hollis Public Schools serves as the county’s only public school system, with Sallie Gillentine Elementary as its elementary campus. City Hall, at 208 West Jones, remains the working address for the mayor, council, city manager, clerk, and treasurer. Around that civic core, Harmon County’s farming and ranching economy includes cotton, irrigation wells, and agricultural service businesses. Lake Hall, the Harmon County Historical Society’s museum work, and recurring county festivals add places where local history and community gatherings surface beyond the courthouse and school.
