About Holt

Holt is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, situated along the Black Warrior River. Part of the Tuscaloosa metropolitan area, the community developed in the early twentieth century as an industrial company town centered on the Central Iron and Coal Company. Today, the area remains an industrial and maritime hub, notable for the Holt Lock and Dam. This facility, completed in 1966, facilitates commercial barge transport and forms Holt Lake, a popular destination for local boating and fishing.
