Holt, MO

Holt is a Clay and Clinton county city on the edge of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Jeremiah Abel Holt donated land in 1837, the town was platted in 1867, and Missouri Route 33 now passes through the community west of Interstate 35. The 2020 census counted 471 residents. County lines run through the city, so Holt's map is tied to both rural northern Missouri and the expanding highway network around Kansas City. Students attend Kearney R-I School District, linking the city to a broader school area.

Water gives Holt a recognizable recreational landmark. Lake Arrowhead reservoir lies north of town on Muddy Fork of Clear Creek, and the lake and its surrounding roads form a local counterpart to the interstate corridor. Holt itself remains a compact city of homes, streets, and municipal services, with larger shopping, employment, and civic trips flowing toward Kearney and the Kansas City region. Its history follows a familiar small-town sequence—land donation, plat, county-line settlement, and road connection—but the combination of two counties, I-35 access, and a nearby reservoir keeps Holt tied to several different geographies at once.
