Kearney is a city in Clay County, Missouri, situated northeast of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Originally platted in 1856 as Centerville by David T. Kearney is famous as the birthplace of the nineteenth-century outlaw Jesse James, whose legacy is recognized each September with an annual festival that attracts visitors from across the region.
