Homeland, FL

Sitting roughly six miles south of Bartow, Homeland is a quiet rural community with deep roots in Polk County's agricultural history. The area was originally settled in the mid-1800s under the name Bethel, starting as a small gathering of cattle ranchers, farmers, and a popular church campground. When the railroad arrived in the 1880s, the town adopted the name Homeland, expanding alongside the region's citrus groves while maintaining its peaceful, wide-open feel.

Today, the community's historic character is on full display at Homeland Heritage Park on Church Avenue. The park preserves several 19th-century buildings, including an 1878 one-room schoolhouse that stands as the oldest surviving school building in the county. With its quiet country roads, shady oaks, and easy access to both Bartow and Fort Meade, Homeland offers a laid-back lifestyle for people who appreciate open space and old Florida charm.
