Hooker, OK

Hooker is a Texas County city in the Oklahoma Panhandle, laid out around the railway and highways that cross the northern part of the county. The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway reached the area in 1902, the year the post office took the town’s name—said to honor OX ranch foreman John “Hooker” Threlkeld. The Chicago Townsite Company platted the town in 1904, and U.S. 54, U.S. 64, and Oklahoma 94 now meet around the original grid. Hooker is an Oklahoma railroad town with a name, street plan, and prairie setting tied to its early transportation map.
