Hooverson Heights, WV

At the 2020 census, Hooverson Heights was a Brooke County census-designated place of 2,582 people on the hill country near Follansbee, within the Weirton-Steubenville metropolitan area. It is a residential place tied closely to Follansbee and the Northern Panhandle. That connection runs deep: the Follansbee site was once called Old Mingo Bottom, Isaac Cox built a log house there in 1772, and the land stayed in farm use until the Follansbee brothers built a steel mill and laid out town lots in 1902. Hooverson Heights grew in the orbit of that steel-town transformation.

The surrounding landscape still supplies the local vocabulary. Follansbee sits along the Ohio River with State Route 2 as its main street, while Weirton and Wellsburg bracket the Brooke County stretch of the river. The annual Hooverson Heights Hilltoppers Reunion at the Follansbee Community House is a small but telling tradition, bringing former residents back under a name that works as both neighborhood nickname and census boundary. Hooverson Heights has no separate downtown to perform the whole story; its character comes through hilltop roads, nearby steel history, and the civic places of Follansbee that serve the wider community.
