Hopwood, PA

Hopwood is a Fayette County census-designated place along the National Road, four miles east of Uniontown, with U.S. 40 Business through the center and the route marking the line between North and South Union townships. Settled as Woodstock in 1791, it took the name Hopwood for John Hopwood after a period as Monroe. The National Road made the village a resting stop at the foot of Chestnut Ridge, and early stone taverns and houses still line the corridor. Summit Mountain hill climbs and the Uniontown Speedway later gave the place a second chapter in transportation history.

Business 40 and National Pike remain the main street, with Uniontown two miles northwest and local streets branching off the old road. The Hopwood Villagers' annual Pike Day festival and parade brings flea-market stalls, food, music, a car cruise, historical cemetery tours, and the wagon-train tradition into the community calendar. Fayette Area Coordinated Transportation lists Hopwood in its local fare schedule alongside Uniontown and nearby communities. Hopwood is a road-shaped settlement where preserved stone buildings and modern Route 40 traffic share the same stretch.
