About Horse Cave
Horse Cave is a Hart County city with an actual cave opening in the middle of downtown. The entrance to Hidden River Cave sits below Main Street, where the underground stream runs beneath town before reemerging at springs along the Green River. The cave once supplied Horse Cave with drinking water and hydroelectric power, and commercial tours ran from 1912 to 1943 before pollution and a railroad lawsuit helped close it. After decades underground and out of sight, the cave reopened through conservation work in the 1990s. Horse Cave is a Kentucky town whose name turns out to be the least surprising thing about it.
