Houghton is the largest city and the county seat of Houghton County, Michigan, located on the Keweenaw Peninsula. Situated along the Keweenaw Waterway in the historic Copper Country region of the Upper Peninsula, the city of approximately 8,474 is home to Michigan Technological University, founded in 1885. The community is locally famous for its annual Winter Carnival and is served by the Houghton-Portage Township School District.
