About Hughes

Hughes is a small city in St. Francis County, Arkansas, in the Delta region west of Memphis. It had just over a thousand residents at the 2020 census, but like many Delta towns it has dealt with school consolidation, population loss, and a shrinking local economy. The former Hughes School District was once a major employer before its closure in 2015, and students are now served by the West Memphis School District. Hughes has a plainly rural, post-school-consolidation feel.
