About Huntington

Huntington is a Hampshire County town where the Westfield River and its West Branch meet around the southern village center. Settlers from Norwich, Connecticut, began arriving in the 1760s, and the early town grew through farming and logging. The Norwich Bridge School Museum keeps that older map in view, while Knightville Dam changed the northern valleys after the Army Corps built it between 1939 and 1941. Residents were moved and Route 112 was relocated as the dam and its dry reservoir took shape. Huntington still reads as a river town, but its roads also carry the outline of places altered by flood-control work.
