Huntington, UT

Huntington is the largest town in Emery County, Utah, with 1,914 residents in the 2020 census. It sits in the wide valley at the mouth of Huntington Canyon, where the road climbs toward the Wasatch Plateau and the Huntington/Eccles Canyon Scenic Byway. Alfalfa seed and honey were early agricultural standouts; local apiarist Christian Ottesen won first prize for honey at the 1903 St. Louis World’s Fair. Later, coal mining and the Huntington power plant reshaped the local economy. The result is a town with farm fields at its feet, canyon country behind it, and an industrial story running through the middle.

Huntington Lake State Park is just outside town, with boating, fishing, camping, and paddleboarding, while city parks and a paved trail connect local streets to the park. Highway 10 and Highway 31 carry most of the movement, with Emery County’s larger outdoor map beginning almost immediately beyond the last homes. Huntington is not only a gateway to the San Rafael Swell or a power-plant town. It is a working Emery County center where schools, city hall, farms, parks, canyon roads, and water recreation all sit close enough to share the same daily routine.
