Ida Grove, IA

Ida Grove is the Ida County seat, laid out where Odebolt Creek meets the Maple River and where U.S. 59 crosses Iowa 175. The town began as Old Ida Grove on the north side of the river in 1871, then picked up and moved south when the railroad arrived in 1877. That move is the key to reading the place: the courthouse and business streets belong to a town shaped by both county government and rail-era relocation.

The standout modern link is Gomaco Trolley, which has been in Ida Grove since 1982 and builds or restores historic streetcars for transit operators. Moorehead Pioneer Park and its reservoir sit across the Maple River, giving the city a nearby stretch of parkland and water beyond the grid. The local school story is regional too: Ida Grove is part of the Odebolt-Arthur-Battle Creek-Ida Grove Community School District. In everyday terms, it is a small county seat with an unusually specific industrial craft, a river crossing at its center, and an old townsite still remembered just north of town.
