About Independence

Independence is a city and the county seat of Montgomery County, Kansas, situated along the Verdigris River. Settled in 1869 on land purchased from the Osage Nation and home to Independence Community College, the historical manufacturing and educational community of approximately 8,422 is served by the Independence Unified School District locally.
