Indianola, OK (CDP)

Indianola is a Delaware County CDP on the western slope of Oklahoma’s Ozark Plateau. The county’s official history describes a landscape of forests, prairies, and farmland drained by the Grand, Elk, Flint, and Illinois rivers, with U.S. 59 crossing the region. Jay, the county seat, concentrates county government, while Indianola sits within the rural network of named communities spread across the county. Delaware County’s history also records Cherokee and Delaware settlement, early subsistence farming, and railroad construction that reorganized nearby communities. Indianola’s setting is a county-scale landscape of wooded uplands, working land, and long routes through northeastern Oklahoma.
